How UAE businesses get found on Google and AI search in 2026

How UAE businesses appear in Google, AI Overviews, ChatGPT search and Perplexity: indexing, Business Profiles, crawler access and answer-first content.

By Farhan Memon · · 7 min read · SEO and AI search

As of October 2026, appearing in AI search mostly depends on the same things as appearing in normal search: your pages must be indexed by Google and Bing, the search crawlers that AI tools use must not be blocked, and your content must state clear, specific facts. There is no special AI markup or file that guarantees a mention, and nobody can promise one.

Business owners in the UAE now ask two questions: how do I rank on Google in Dubai, and how do I show up when someone asks ChatGPT? The good news is that the answers overlap almost entirely. This guide explains what the search and AI companies themselves say, what you can control, and what to ignore. Facts are as of October 2026; this area changes quickly.

How AI search actually finds pages

AI assistants that answer with links don't read the whole web live. They search an index, pick pages and summarise them. Which index depends on the tool:

AI toolWhere it finds pagesWhat you need
Google AI Overviews and AI ModeGoogle's normal Search indexIndexed in Google and eligible to show a snippet
Gemini appGoogle Search indexIndexed in Google; Google-Extended not blocked
Microsoft CopilotBing's indexIndexed in Bing
ChatGPT searchOpenAI's crawler (OAI-SearchBot) plus partner search providersOAI-SearchBot allowed; well indexed in Bing helps
PerplexityIts own index built by PerplexityBotPerplexityBot allowed
ClaudeAnthropic's crawlers plus a search providerClaude-SearchBot and Claude-User allowed

Google is explicit that AI Overviews and AI Mode use its core search systems, and that a page only needs to be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet; there are no additional technical requirements (Google: AI features and your website). In other words, the work you would do for normal search is the work that matters for AI search. Both AI Overviews and AI Mode are available in Arabic, so Arabic pages can be cited for Arabic questions.

Step 1: Get indexed in Google and Bing

  • Google Search Console: verify your site, submit your sitemap and check the Page indexing report. Since 31 August 2026 every site also has a Search generative AI setting under Settings; it should read Include (the default) if you want to appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode (Google Search Console Help).
  • Bing Webmaster Tools: many businesses skip Bing, but Copilot grounds its answers in Bing, and ChatGPT search also draws on third-party search providers. You can import your verified sites from Search Console in a few clicks.
  • IndexNow: a free protocol that tells Bing and other participating engines when a page is added, changed or removed (IndexNow documentation). Google doesn't participate, so keep your sitemap up to date for Google.

Step 2: Don't block the AI search crawlers

Each AI company runs separate crawlers for separate jobs, and each can be allowed or blocked in your robots.txt file. The ones that build search indexes are the ones that decide whether you can be cited:

CompanySearch crawler (allow to be cited)Training crawler (your choice)
OpenAIOAI-SearchBotGPTBot
AnthropicClaude-SearchBot, Claude-UserClaudeBot
PerplexityPerplexityBotNone separate; PerplexityBot is not used for model training
GoogleGooglebotGoogle-Extended (also affects Gemini app grounding)
MicrosoftBingbotNo separate token

OpenAI states that sites which block OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, while blocking GPTBot only affects training (OpenAI: crawlers). Anthropic and Perplexity document their crawlers in the same way (Anthropic; Perplexity). Blocking training crawlers is a legitimate business choice; blocking search crawlers simply removes you from those answers.

Check your hosting and firewall too. Some security services block bots by default, which overrides whatever your robots.txt says. If your site sits behind a firewall or bot-protection service, confirm that search crawlers are allowed through.

Step 3: Google Business Profile, if you are eligible

Map results need a Google Business Profile, and Google only allows one for businesses that meet customers in person: at premises with signage, or by visiting customers within roughly two hours' drive of a base (Google: Business Profile eligibility). Virtual offices and online-only businesses are not eligible. If you run a clinic, restaurant, showroom or a service business that visits customers, a complete, accurate profile is one of the most valuable things you can do. If you don't meet the rules, don't create one with a borrowed address; it can be suspended.

A transparency note: I work remotely from outside the UAE, so I don't have a UAE Business Profile and won't create one. Clients with UAE premises can, and I help them set it up correctly.

Step 4: Write content that can be quoted

Google and Bing both describe the same qualities: original, first-hand content, facts stated clearly near the top of the page, one topic per page, clear headings, and claims supported by evidence. Bing also recommends tables and FAQ sections for clarity. For a UAE business that usually means:

  • A short, plain answer at the top of each service page: what you do, for whom, where, and what it includes.
  • Specific facts: the emirates you serve, your opening hours, your real prices in AED if you publish them, the brands or developers you work with.
  • Real examples and dated facts ("as of October 2026") rather than general claims.
  • The same business name, description and contact details everywhere: your site, social profiles and directory listings.
  • Complete Arabic pages written or reviewed by a native speaker, if you want to be cited for Arabic questions.

What to ignore

  • llms.txt files: a proposed standard for summarising a site for AI tools. Google has said Search doesn't use it, and no major AI search engine documents using it to choose sources. It is optional and harmless if accurate, but it won't make you appear.
  • FAQ schema for rich results: Google stopped showing FAQ rich results for all sites on 7 May 2026. Visible FAQ sections are still useful to readers; the markup no longer earns anything in Google.
  • City doorway pages: dozens of near-identical "web design Dubai", "web design Sharjah" pages are listed as doorway abuse in Google's spam policies (Google: spam policies).
  • Anyone promising guaranteed rankings or AI mentions. Google says no one can guarantee a top ranking (Google: do you need an SEO?), and AI tools pick sources in ways their makers don't fully disclose.

Step 5: Measure what you can

Measurement has improved in 2026. Search Console has a Generative AI performance report showing impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, rolled out to all sites from 31 August 2026. Bing Webmaster Tools has an AI Performance report showing how often your pages are cited in Copilot and Bing's AI summaries. Google Analytics 4 now groups visits from assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot into an AI Assistant channel. Many AI visits still arrive without a referrer and show up as direct traffic, so treat these numbers as trends, not totals.

A short checklist

  1. Verify the site in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools; submit the sitemap to both.
  2. Confirm the Search generative AI setting reads Include.
  3. Check robots.txt and your firewall allow Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot.
  4. Set up IndexNow so Bing hears about changes quickly.
  5. Add an answer-first summary to every important page.
  6. If eligible, complete your Google Business Profile.
  7. Review the AI reports monthly and record trends.

If you would rather have someone do this for you, the technical SEO service covers all of it, in English and Arabic, with no ranking promises and a plain report of what changed.

How do I get my business to appear in ChatGPT?

Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt, make sure your site is well indexed in Bing, and publish clear, specific pages about what you do. Nobody can guarantee ChatGPT will mention you.

Do I need special markup or an llms.txt file for AI Overviews?

No. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode need no special markup or files, and that Search doesn't use llms.txt. A page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet.

Can I get a Google Business Profile without an office in the UAE?

Only if you meet customers in person at a real location or visit them within your service area. Virtual offices and online-only businesses are not eligible.

Should I block AI crawlers?

Blocking training crawlers such as GPTBot or ClaudeBot is a business choice that doesn't affect search. Blocking search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot removes you from those tools' answers.

How can I see if AI search sends me visitors?

Use Search Console's Generative AI performance report, Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report and the AI Assistant channel in Google Analytics 4.
